Job Assignments:
Under general supervision, the Food Service Employee is responsible for performing a variety of duties while properly operating Lagoon’s food concession stands in accordance to Lagoon’s policies and procedures.  Food Service Employee prepare and serve food to Lagoon’s guests and follow proper sanitation procedures to keep a clean and orderly work area.  Food Service Employee must be willing to work in the Group Food Service area during peak catering times.
 
Job Requirements/Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Due to the nature of Lagoon’s group sales business, employees are required to be available to work most Saturdays throughout the operating season
  • Food Service Employees will be taking guests’ orders at food locations and must have the ability to handle cash, operate a cash register and credit card machine, as well as count back change in accordance to Lagoon’s cash handling and cash control policies and procedures.
  • The Food Service Employee will prepare, cook, and serve food products as trained by Food Management in an efficient and timely manner.
  • The Food Service Employee will complete daily cleaning inside and outside before, during, and after the operational hours of the food service locations. Cleaning duties will include washing windows, sweeping, mopping, washing dishes, cleaning counters, wiping guest tables, emptying garbage cans, and cleaning food service equipment including warmers, ovens, dishwashers, shelves, fridges, freezers, etc.
  • The Food Service Employee must monitor and respond to inappropriate guest behavior, including enforcing rules and restrictions, regulating guests’ actions, and requesting assistance from Security and the Food Supervisors if necessary.
  • The Food Service Employee will operate food concession locations during normal and unusual conditions
  • The Foods Service Employee must be able to prepare, set up, and serve at buffet picnics during normal and unusual conditions.
  • The Food Service Employee must exhibit a high degree of motivation toward ensuring guest satisfaction by displaying an aggressively friendly approach to service guests.In addition, the Food Service Employee must be able to deal with many guests each day in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Closely monitor food area to ensure a safe operation and prevent theft.
  • The Food Service Employee must be flexible to work in different food service locations and must be knowledgeable in all work stations.
  • During training periods, the Food Service Employee must be able to read and assimilate information provided in the Food Division’s Manual and the Seasonal Employee Handbook, and comprehend verbal instructions from the training Food Area Supervisor.Food employees are required to exhibit an orientation to sales, and subsequently, employees are required to exhibit adequate communication skills.
  • The Food Service Employee will be working around high noise levels resulting from amusement rides and various food service equipment. The Food Service Worker must be able to remain focused on the job while dealing with interruptions from guests and/or other employee contact.
  • The Food Service Employee must be willing to conform to Lagoon’s grooming and personal hygiene requirements and wear the proper issued uniform. A neat, clean, professional appearance is required at all times.
  • The Food Service Employee must be willing and able to perform all other job duties and assignments as assigned by management.
Required Relationships:
  • Each Food Service Worker will be working with all levels of the Food Division staff and various levels of other departments to which the Food Division operation is related.
  • Each Food Service Worker will be in contact with a high volume of guests on a daily basis, which requires good guest service skills and ability.
 
Work Schedule:
This position is seasonal. Seasonal employees are at-will and may be terminated at any time, with or without cause and/or notice. Seasonal Employees perform their work at certain seasons and periods of the year.  Their work, by its nature, is not continuous nor is it carried on throughout the year.  A seasonal employee who is employed at the conclusion of the season will be terminated.  A seasonal employee has no expectation in employment beyond the season in which he/she is hired.  In a 12-month period, a Seasonal Employee works on average 28 hours or less per week and never more than 1400 hours in a 12-month period. 
 
This position requires the employee to work a variable weekly schedule, five-six days a week from as early as 6:00 a.m. to as late as 1:00 a.m. including evenings, weekends, and holidays. A seasonal employee agrees to work as scheduled by Lagoon. Due to the seasonal nature of Lagoon’s business, the work schedule of a seasonal employee may vary from as few as zero (0) hours per week and may exceed fifty (50) hours per week during peak operational times.
Lagoon is a “seasonal amusement or recreational establishment” under the Fair Labor Standards Act and Utah law. Therefore, all Lagoon employees are exempt from the overtime and minimum wage provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Utah law.
Fourteen and Fifteen year old employees may not work:
  • More than 3 hours on school days
  • More than 8 hours per day when school is not in session
  • More than 18 hours per week during school weeks
  • More than 40 hours per week when school is not in session
    •     Before 7:00 a.m. or after 6:45 p.m. when school is in session or after 8:45 p.m. when school is not in session
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 14 years of age.
  • Food handling experience is appreciated.
  • Food Division employees are required to obtain a valid Davis County Food Handler’s Permit and to follow all food safety guidelines as outlined by the Davis County Department of Environmental Health, as well as Lagoon’s policies and procedures.
  • Job Qualifications are stated in essential functions of the job description. Each Food Service Employee must be able to accomplish the essential functions in order to be competent in the job.

  • Able to follow daily operational and closing procedures in order to maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization in all work areas.
  • Able to respond quickly to unusual situations during normal operation, including power failure and fire alarms.
  • Able to handle minor complaints and suggestions from our guests in a calm and professional manner.
  • Clean work area daily or more often, as needed.

  • Able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, and feel.

  • Able to work in a considerably noisy environment from equipment and amusement rides.
  • Able to perform work duties outside in varying weather conditions prevalent at the time.
